Things to do in London on New Year's Day

New Year's Day Parade-London

Mon Dec 31 British Airways London Eye
The official display organised by the Mayor's office and Visit London makes full use of the stunning backdrop of the London Eye. The bridges (Waterloo, Westminster and the eastern Jubilee footbridge) will provide good vantage points, as will the riverbanks. You could try Millennium Bridge, too, but it has a restricted view of the Eye. Alternatively, Southbank Centre is hosting a party and ticket holders get prime viewing access to the riverside balconies (www.southbankcentre.org.uk). The fireworks will be broadcast live on BBC1. Useful tube stations are Waterloo, Embankment and Charing Cross. All are likely to be very busy as travel will be free between 11.45pm and 4.30am. Journey-planning information and full details are available on http://www.tfl.gov.uk/.
